What About DTF? Do Not Treat It Like an EcoTank Conversion

DTF, also called DTFilm, is appealing because it can decorate a much broader range of garment colors and fabrics than traditional dye sublimation. But it is not simply another setting on a normal home inkjet.

A complete DTF workflow normally involves:

  • printing color plus an opaque white-ink layer onto film;
  • keeping white ink properly circulated and the printhead maintained;
  • applying adhesive powder to the wet print;
  • curing that adhesive correctly;
  • heat pressing the finished transfer to the garment;
  • following the film/ink system’s peel and finishing instructions.

Can You Convert an EcoTank Printer to Sublimation?

People do convert new EcoTank printers by filling them with third-party sublimation ink before normal ink is ever installed. That is a popular DIY route because refillable tanks make the physical process straightforward.

But it is not the route Epson supports for the ET-2800 or ET-8550. Epson recommends genuine ink and warns that non-genuine ink can cause damage not covered by its limited warranty.
